Nepal Develops its Timber Resources
Abstract:
Timber is one of the Nepal's richest resources. Almost 75 percent of the country is forest, yielding wood of the major construction purpose, pulp, matches and fuel. Wood is one of the major exports to India. The Government of Nepal started its reforestation program following a report the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) made in 1953. The report made recommendations for forest and soil conservation, afforestation and reforestation. It also suggested ways to manage existing forest tracts and make the most favorable use of lumber products. Workers at the nursery at Thankot carrying seedling in boxes.
