Celebrating International Day for Tolerance 2014 An exhibition “Tolerance, Understanding, Coexistence. Oman’s message of Islam”
Abstract:
The exhibition is an international initiative of Oman’s Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs. Through sharing Oman’s experience of religious diversity and over 3000 years of rich history of intercultural exchange, it aims at promoting interfaith dialogue, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence. The message is at the very core of the 2010 International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures for which the UN General Assembly proclaimed and designated UNESCO to play a leading role, capitalizing on the Organization’s experience of over 60 years to advance the mutual knowledge and understanding of peoples. The 24 panels with texts and graphics will exhibit facets of a modern Arab country and provide insight into the role of religion in the daily life in Oman and also how Islam in Oman demonstrates a link among the various religious factions that helps safeguarding the cultural identity in a time of great change. It also demonstrates that “progress” does not necessarily go hand in hand with loss of traditions and cultural identity. #UNESCO #WolfgangEttlich #InternationalDay #Tolerance #Understanding #Coexistence #Exibition #MessageofIslam
