NEPAL WATER RESOURCE AVAILABILITY
Abstract:
In Nepal there are real feasibility the water supply of people to be settled by developing two water resources: surface and ground waters. Hydrogeologically, two regions are clearly noticeable in Nepal: the mountain complex and the Terai plain. In the mountain complex, there can be developed streams from surface waters and springs from ground waters. Excep- tionally, in some river and structures valleys of this complex, under-ground waters can be developed by dug and tube wells. In the Terai Region, only ground waters can be developed for the water supply by dug, shallow and deep tube wells. Taking into account some specific physiographic, climatic, geological, hydrology and consequently, also ecology features, in Nepal five regions can separated; all of them stretching WNW - ESE. They are: High Himalayas, Midland, Mahabharat Rang Churia Hill and Terai. The first 4 mentioned regions correspond to the above mentioned mountain complex.
