Young People’s Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights
Abstract:
Ensuring adolescents have access to appropriate sexual and reproductive health information and services can have a significant impact across their life course.11 Such information and services empowers young people to protect themselves against inappropriate sexual behaviour, unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS. If young people have the means to delay parenthood and plan the number and spacing of their children (if any), they will be better able to avail of training and education and participate in development of their communities and economies. Irish development policy supports “universal access to reproductive health care” 16 and recognises the role of education in promoting sexual and reproductive health.17 Ireland contributes core funding to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Through its role as a member of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council, Ireland supports resolutions on issues such as maternal mortality and FGM. women#reproductive#health#sexual#rights#
