National Immunization Programme
Abstract:
Nepal has committed to achieve measles elimination and rubella/CRS control by 2019 during the WHO South East Asian Regional Consultation Meeting on Measles held on February 2013. Accordingly, the Government of Nepal has endorsed strategic plan for measles elimination and rubella/CRS control. Achieve and sustain high population immunity (>95% by SIAs and routine MR) is one of the strategy for measles elimination. In response to this, routine MR has been strengthened by introduction of second dose of MR in 15 months of age. The coverage of routine MR first dose in 9 months was 85%. MR campaign 2015 - 2016 has also been accomplished in four phases in all 75 districts with total coverage of 99% covering around 3 million children. In 2016, seven districts have already reported measles outbreaks. It indicates an urgent need to identify districts with high risk of measles transmission. Hence, risk assessment for measles transmission is done using a tool developed by WHO SEAR to guide and strengthen programme at district level. Overall risk is assessed as the sum of indicators scores that fall into four main categories: population immunity, immunization program delivery, threat assessment and surveillance quality. #WHO #NATIONAL_IMMUNIZATION_PROGRAMME #2016
