Abstract:
Nepal is governed under the Interim Constitution of Nepal, 2007 (Constitution), which replaced the Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal, 1990. The Constitution was drafted to facilitate the transformation process that started with the people's movement in April 2006, and also to manage the transition from constitutional monarchy to a federal republic. The Constitution has clear provisions of ensuring democratic values including competitive multi-party system of governance, fundamental rights, adult franchise, periodic elections and the rule of law.
