Identification of NTFP Based Micro-Enterprises in Parbat: Opportunities, Constraints and Strategies for Development
Abstract:
This report is a summary of the results of MA&D workshops organized by MEDEP and ANSAB in Parbat on December 4-6, 1999 to initiate the process of NTFP based microenterprise development. The Micro-Enterprise Development program (MEDEP) was started in 1998 and is now operating in 7 districts of Nepal. Socio-economic and market surveys in all districts have identified Non-Timber Forest products (NTFP) as potential micro-enterprise products. In order to address this opportunity, workshops usingthe Market Analysis and Development(MA&D1) approach were conductedin Parbat District between December 4 and 6, 1999. An HMG initiative, MEDEP will run for 3 years (1998-2001) with gradual phase-in, in a total of ten districts, two in each development region. It is designed to support the Ninth Plan (1997-2002) in which poverty reduction through the creation of off-farm employment is the key goal. The executing agent is the Ministry of Industry in collaboration with UNDP and several national partner agencies. The Program is aiming to include at least 70% women entrepreneurs in its target group. The main goals of MEDEP are: a) poverty reduction through sustainable microenterprise development and b) capacity building of service delivery mechanisms related to micro-enterprise development. #MicroEnterprise #CapasityBuilding #Strategies #SDGs
