Thematic Papers on the MDG3: Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women
Abstract:
Global agreement to include this goal was a very positive development and signalled a recognition by member states that gender inequality not only decreases the likelihood of achieving the other goals, but also that advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment depends on progress made on each of the other goals. MDG 3 interprets gender equality very narrowly, and there is growing recognition that the targets and indicators that frame the goal on gender equality and women’s empowerment are too limited.
