Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC), Nepal Terms Of Reference For Emergency Nutrition Cluster
Abstract:
UNICEF and WHO initiated the Emergency Health and Nutrition Working Group (EHNWG) in April 2006 in order to respond to emergency health and nutrition situations in Nepal. The goal of the EHNWG is to reduce excess mortality and morbidity in emergencies in Nepal. The terms of reference for the EHNWG clearly state that the working group will work closely with the Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP) and the Ministry of Home Affairs for disaster management in Nepal. The working group was further strengthened following the Koshi River floods in 2008. Since then, it has addressed health and nutrition issues related to various disasters including the flood emergencies in Mid- and Far Western Regions in 2007/08 and 2008/09 and the diarrhoea epidemic in 2008/09. At present, WHO and UNICEF are co-chairing and coordinating the EHNWG.
