From Water to Wellbeing: Glimpses of A Global Collaboration
Abstract:
Access to potable water is a major social issue in many parts of Cambodia. According to UN data in the year 2000 only 46% of the total population had access to improved drinking water while in 2008 the figure had reached 61%. Many schools, universities and health centres presently do not have a reliable source of water for drinking and other uses. Under the UN-Habitat Mekong Region Water and Sanitation Initiative (MEK- WATSAN) programme in Prek Thmei, the access to improved sanitation has increased from 29% (in 2007) to 75% (in 2010) of the total population. However, the percentage of access to clean water is still a challenge. The share of the population with access to an improved water source was estimated at 98% in 2004 in Bangladesh. This has been achieved to a large extent through the construction of hand pumps with the support of external donors. #GlobalCollaboration ##PotableWater
