Abstract:
18 January, 2015 (Pokhara): This day marks another great initiative in the milestone of the National Immunization Programme in Nepal with the introduction of another new vaccine Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV). Exactly four months back, the country with pride and dedication marked an historical achievement with the introduction of Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) making it the first in the region. The introduction of the pneumococcal vaccine will address one of the major killers of children: pneumonia. Some of the other severe forms of pneumococcal disease are pneumonia, meningitis causing life-long disability such as hearing loss and learning disability. All of these are significant public health problems and have a serious impact in child health around the world.
