Hupsekot Leasehold Forest Intergroup Received Mountain Development Award 2011
Abstract:
Mountain Development Award is the biggest prize that Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation (MFSC) awards to the individual/s or institution/s that contribute/s to the sustainable mountain development and environmental conservation for the welfare of the people. This is the continuation of the commitment of the government to celebrate International Mountain Year 2002 as passed by 53rd UN General Assembly in 1998. Every year MFSC provides a certificate together with the cash prize of NRs 200,000 to the winner of the award. If more than one individuals or institutions win the award, the cash prize will be equally distributed among winners. Mountain Development Award 2011 is jointly awarded to Ramche Community Forest User Group (Palpa) and Hupsekot Leasehold Forest Intergroup. State minister of MFSC Hon. Laxman Mahato awarded the certificate and cash prize to the winners on 11 December 2011 at Pokhara. In the short history of Mountain Development award, last year was the first when any of the Leasehold Forestry Groups could earn this. The FAO piloted Jhirubas Leasehold Forestry intergroup bagged this award solo in 2010.
