The Maoist army works with UNMIN mine action and IED experts, as they regularly visit cantonment sites to advice on how to safely store IEDs and how to monitor their condition. UNMIN completed a comprehensive adult and assessment of IEDs and explosives in these sites in June, in cooperation with Maoist commanders. Based on this assessment, the Joint Monitoring Coordination Committee(JMCC) approved a plan for the safe destruction of these IEDs and explosive. Maoist army personnel have been trained by UNMIN mine action and IED experts so that they can contribute to this destruction, although this process will be strictly conducted by specialist mine action experts brought in by UNMIN. The Nepal Army is advised by UNMIN mine action experts on the clearance of its minefields and other sites. The Nepal Army has provided information to UNMIN about the locations of minefields and security positions which had been mined either with landmines or IEDs. The Nepal Army is working on a plan to safely destroy these landmines and other IEDs. UNMIN has begun training the Nepal Army in humanitarian mine clearance in accordance with International Mine Action Standards(IMAS).
