Press Statement (2008)
Abstract:
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) strongly condemn the attack on the IOM bus on Wednesday, 21 May 2008, near Sanischare refugee camp in Morang district. This is the second time that an IOM bus has been attacked. The first attack was on 05 May 2008, near the Khudunabari refugee camp, and the IOM driver and two refugees were injured. IOM, UNHCR and WFP are deeply concerned as such incidents are an attack on the international community. We call upon all concerned parties to immediately stop such violence. The agencies would like to emphasize that any further deterioration of the security situation could have a negative impact on our ability to deliver humanitarian assistance to the refugees in the camps.
