Project Information Sheet : Building the Foundation for Access to Justice and Reparations for Conflict Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) survivors
Abstract:
Highlights: 1. In Nepal, the decade-long armed conflict resulted in gross human rights violations such as killings, enforced disappearances, torture, rape and other types of sexual violence. 2. To date, the relief packages delivered by the Government of Nepal (GoN) have been able to, in part, provide a wide range of assistance measures including compensation, vocational trainings, support to orphans and other vulnerable victims in areas like education, as well as healthcare to registered conflict victims. 3. However, the interim relief program which aimed to alleviate some of the challenges faced by conflict victims does not give formal recognition to Conflict Related Sexual Violence survivors (CRSV) or torture victims thus excluding them from the government’s interim relief programs. 4. There remains a gap in terms of effective functional institutional arrangements to deliver basic medical care, health care (including sexual and reproductive health care) and psychosocial support to CRSV survivors. 5. This Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction (MoPR) is commencing a psychosocial counseling and support program for conflict victims including survivors of CRSV in ten districts.
