Rapid Assessment note for Sankhu (29 April 2015)
Abstract:
A WHO team (Ms. Payden, Dr Sudan Raj Panthi and Mr Raja Ram Pote Shrestha) carried out rapid assessment of Danchhi and Sankhu, two small towns in Kathmandu Valley. The affected people have been staying in tents in agricultural fields. The people have been using water from springs and using either pit latrines or in open fields. The discharge of sewage from mal-functional sewage treatment plant and pig farming near the camp worsened the sanitary condition of the area. Many organizations have been working in the area. Nepal Red Cross distributed some tents, Mercy Malaysia has been establishing field health center, Delhi Gurudwara is planning to distribute foods for free and there is one mobile hospital bus in the area. But no agency has been working on WASH sector. Reportedly many organisations and persons have been supporting people near to the city entrance but the people from hinter side of the city is largely neglected.
