OCHA Nepal Situation Overview, Issue No. 5 (July 2006)
Abstract:
Highlights: 1. High level UN mission visits Nepal to seek clarity on a potential role to support the peace process 2. The unification talks between CPN-Maoist and its breakaway, TJMM, collapse 3. The 2006-07 budget presented; includes increased allocations at the VDC level, and to conflict victims 4. 68% of VDC Secretaries remain displaced (See map, page 3) 5. Nepal Government agrees to UNHCR’s request to issue exit visas for 16 vulnerable Bhutanese refugees to resettle abroad 6. Freed bonded labourers, the kamaiyas, stages demos demanding rehabilitation and livelihood support 7. WFP starts its first-ever emergency food operation in Nepal’s Far and Mid West
