OCHA Nepal- Fortnightly Situation Overview, Issue No. 24/ April 2008
Abstract:
Highlights: 1. Nepal holds historic Constituent Assembly Election as scheduled on 10 April 2. Most observers laude large orderly polling procedures and commend electoral administration 3. Preliminary results show a landslide win for the Maoists, while NC and CPN-UML suffer big losses 4. Violence marred campaign period and created an atmosphere of intimidation in many parts of the country 5. Armed Terai groups continue their agitations, enforcing shutdown in some terai areas, and causing explosions 6. Operational space restricted by election but no direct infringement of movement for aid workers reported 7. Health posts, school closed, total vehicle movement shutdown on polling day
