UN Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific
Abstract:
The UN Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD) assists countries in the Asia and Pacific region in achieving their peace, security and disarmament goals, through provision of substantive support; coordination of activities at the sub regional, regional and international levels; and information sharing on global and regional activities. UNRCPD works in close partnership with regional and sub-regional organizations, as well as with other United Nations entities and civil society organizations. The Centre focuses its activities in three main areas: providing capacity building and technical assistance, creating and participating in dialogue for, and engaging in outreach and advocacy on disarmament issues. #UN #RegionalCentre #PeaceAndDisarmament #AsiaAndPacific

Abstract:
The UN Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD) assists countries in the Asia and Pacific region in achieving their peace, security and disarmament goals, through provision of substantive support; coordination of activities at the subregional, regional and international levels; and information sharing on global and regional activities. UNRCPD works in close partnership with regional and sub-regional organizations, as well as with other United Nations entities and civil society organizations. The Centre focuses its activities in three main areas: providing capacity building and technical assistance, creating and participating in dialogue fora, and engaging in outreach and advocacy on disarmament issues. Promote the universalisation and provide substantive support for the full implementation of global disarmament and non-proliferation treaties, undertakings and norm Provide substantive support for the full implementation of existing nuclear-weapon-free zones in the region and assist the fostering of co-operation amongst these zones Assist States in strengthening capacity in combating illicit small arms and light weapons, including the provision of technical assistance and training courses Assist States in strengthening their capacity to fully implement UN Security Council Resolution 1540 Promote dialogue and confidence-building on global and regional disarmament and non- proliferation challenges, including through the organization of conferences and seminars Promote peace and disarmament education to generate public awareness and support for global and regional disarmament global and Support the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 regarding women, peace and security Provide support to Member States in their ratification and implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty
