UNESCO Office in Kathmandu - Issue 2 Volume 1
Abstract:
UNESCO in Kathmandu carries out different types of initiatives, as will be apparent in this second Newsletter. Some of these are the continuation of older activities, for example in domain of literacy. Some of them are tailored to respond to the new challenges facing Nepal. The National Symposium on Education and Federalism, and the workshop on Governance of Nepal’s Heritage in a Federal System, are designed to enable parliamentarians, civil servants, and civil society to understand the implications of moving towards federalism, and consequently help design a successful multi-tiered state that will deliver services and rights that will be enshrined in new constitution. Training for Women Journalists in Terai obeys the imperative of securing the rights of journalists, particularly women journalists, in this way marking our commitment to the open, gender equality-based nation to which the Nepalese people aspire.
