Statement of the Speech on the Occasion of World Population Day 2005 Ms. Junko Sazaki, Representative, UNFPA Nepal
Abstract:
The UNFPA poster has the slogan “Equality Empowers”. It says equality benefits everyone. Where girls have equal opportunity to education, societies become more prosperous. Where women have equal access to income, assets and services, families become healthier. When both men and women are able to participate equally, and exercise their full human rights, the world benefits. The ICPD calls on governments to foster women’s empowerment, male responsibility and gender equality and to promote and protect the human rights of women and girls. There is a growing body of evidence, which shows that providing equal access to education and health services, income-earning opportunities and legal rights benefits not only women, but all members of society. It unleashes the full potential of half the human race to contribute to greater social and economic progress for all.
