Abstract:
The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany has pledged a contribution of US$ 305,000 to the UN refugee agency towards “Humanitarian Assistance and International Protection for Bhutanese Refugees in Nepal”. Expressing his gratitude, UNHCR’s Representative in Nepal, Abraham Abraham said,“We wish to thank the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Germany for this important contribution to UNHCR’s activities in Nepal.” He added,“This contribution will be used towards meeting the ongoing needs of the Bhutanese refugees for the year 2005.”Some 105,000 Bhutanese refugees have been sheltering in seven camps in eastern Nepal since the early 1990’s, awaiting a permanent solution to their plight. With a mandate to protect the world's 19.2 million refugees and other persons of concern, asylum seekers and internally displaced persons, UNHCR is entirely funded by direct, voluntary contributions from governments, non-governmental organizations and individuals.
