NHRC Press Release, September 9-2005
Abstract:
The National Human Rights Commission expresses its serious concern over the incidents taking place in the course of protest rallies organized by political parties and civil society in various places in the capital. It has come to the knowledge of the Commission that in the name of maintaining peace and order, security personnel have used excessive force and poisonous tear gas in controlling meetings and rallies organized by exercising the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of opinion and expression. The Commission therefore appeals to His Majesty’s Government not to use excessive force and harmful tear gas in controlling the rallies and meetings. The Commission also appeals to all concerned to be aware of the fundamental human rights principle in exercising their rights while respecting the rights of others.
