Health Sector Response HIV And AIDS In Nepal
Abstract:
Nepal has shown its commitment to the response to the HIV and AIDS epidemic in spite of continued political instability and has declared HIV and AIDS as a key priority within the country’s development agenda. The country uses the 1995 National AIDS Policy as the overall guiding policy and the National HIV/AIDS Strategy (2006- 2011) and the National Action Plan 2008-2011 are two vital components of the current national response. District AIDS Coordinating Committees(DACCs) were established in 35 districts, with the responsibility of coordinating HIV and AIDS activities at the district level. A number of partners are involved in implementing HIV and AIDS programmes across the country, ranging from bilateral agencies, to INGOs and NGOs, United Nations organizations, as well as networks ofcommunity based organizations. In terms of financial support to the HIV and AIDS response in the country, the primary donors in 2008-2009 were GFATM, DFID and USAID, contributing to approximately 80% of the total funding.
