Despite social, cultural, economic and security challenges, these women are increasingly participating in protecting and promoting human rights, often under difficult conditions. Women have for long contributed actively to their communities but their activities have not always received appropriate recognition. The work carried out by women journalists and human rights defenders helps to draw attention to the situation of women in Nepal, enabling them to respond effectively to problems encountered specifically by women.
