Needs Assessment on the availability of Emergency Obstetric Care Services in eight districts
Abstract:
The Needs Assessment survey was conducted in eight districts selected for implementation of the Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) Project, a part of the Support to the Safe Motherhood Programe. The eight districts are Jumla, Humla, Accham, Dang, Kavre, Udaypur, Saptari and Panchthar. A total number of 35 facilities were surveyed. In each districts this consisted of the district hospital (7) and all primary health care centres (17), and a sample of health posts (9). A limited number of sub -health posts (2) providing delivery services were also assessed. The period of assessment was from July 2004 to June 2005 (Srawan 2061- Asar 2062)Seven districts had government hospitals while Kavre has two non-government hospitals providing CEmOC.. Six of the districts surveyed had received previous support through projects under the National Safe Motherhood Programme. The District Hospitals in Udaypur and Humla had been supported to strengthen BEmOC services for 2 years, Jumla had received previous support for strengthening CEmOC, from the Nepal Safer Motherhood Project; Dang, Saptari and Panchthar had received support from UNICEF’s Women’s Right to Life and Health Project between 2001-2005, to strengthen CEmOC in the district hospitals and BEmOC in one PHCC in each of these districts. #MaternalAndNewbornHealth #EmergencyCare
