Heritage Homeowner’s Preservation Handbook
Abstract:
This Heritage Homeowner's Preservation Handbook has been prepared as a convenient reference for homeowners. It has been adapted from the Heritage Homeowner's Preservation Manual for the Kathmandu Valley World Heritage Site. In Chapter 1, it explains conservation in the Kathmandu Valley. In Chapter 2, it provides homeowners with a better understanding of their historic buildings. In Chapter 3, it helps owners set conservation objectives. In Chapter 4, it provides useful and practical advice on maintaining historic buildings. More in-depth and technical explanation about conservation techniques, timber structures, masonry walls, roofs, finishes and paint are provided in the full Heritage Homeowner's Preservation Manual for the Kathmandu Valley World Heritage Site. Interested homeowners are recommended to contact UNESCO to request the full manual. This handbook offers guidelines for the repair of traditional old buildings to homeowners. This document is subject to revision from time to time, including when new technical solutions are developed. Suggestions from homeowners are most welcome. Because this is the first document of its kind, there may be mistakes or better solutions. The information provided in this document might not work in all conditions. Some issues will have to be solved case by case in situ. Any repair or restoration works carried out on historic houses should respect, retain and restore the original elements. We request all the homeowners in the World Heritage Site, as well as in historic areas in the Kathmandu Valley, to read this document before any change, renovation or addition is made to historic houses (private or public). #WorldHeritageSite #KathmanduValley #NepalHeritageIn Danger
