WFP has been providing critical food aid to more than 60,000 displaced flood victims since September 2008. Nearly US$7 million of donor contributions have been utilized to provide general food rations for the affected population.
WFP informed the government, donors and flood victims in February that funds for relief food assistance for the Koshi response have been exhausted. Because the status of many of the victims remains unresolved and the situation tense, the Ministry of Home Affairs requested additional short term assistance. In response to the request, WFP has transferred resources, previously allocated to other food insecure populations, to meet the food requirements for flood victims for 15 days in March. Unless other resources are received, this will be a one-time distribution.
