UNFPA and UNMIN Joint Statement to the Press on the Occasion of the Launch of Naya Adhyaya A joint UNFPA/UNMIN Street Theatre Project on Women and the Peace Process (18 November 2007)
PDF File Size: 107 KB | Download
Naya Adhyaya has been developed by Sarwanam Theater, in conjunction with UNFPA and UNMIN. The play is based on research carried out in towns and villages across Nepal. It tells the story of a woman called Bina and her struggle for equal rights and recognition. While Bina represents the difficulties of many women in Nepal, she also voices their aspirations and demonstrates their strengths. We believe that today’s theater show will provoke your thinking about the challenges and obstacles women face in trying to play an active role in Nepal’s peace process,as well as your understanding of what an important contribution they can make. I hope it will also provoke each of you, women and men, to take action in your everyday life to recognize the contribution of women and to welcome this in your work of building a new Nepal.
