Nepal is a small mountainous landlocked country situated between India and the People’s Republic of China. The total area of the country is 147,181 km. Physio-graphically, the country can be divided into five major regions: High Himal, High Mountains, Mid-hills, Siwaliks and flat Terai. The total population of the country is around 6.5 million with a growth rate of 1.35. The male to female ratio is slightly leaning to the latter (51 percent). Of the total population, 48.4 percent live in the Terai, 44.5 percent in the Mid-hills, and the rest seven percent in the High Mountain regions. There are more than 102 ethnic groups, of which about 60 are indigenous communities distributed across various physio-graphic regions. Nearly 85.5percent people live in the rural areas.
