Portrait of Mercedes Pulido de. BRICENO, who has been appointed coordinator for the improvement of the status of Women in the United Nations Secretariat at the Assistant Secretary-General level.
Mrs. Briceno was Minister of State for the Integration of Women in Development and member of the Executive Cabinet of the president of Venezuela from 1979 to 1984. From 1969 to 1984, she was National Co-ordinator of community Development, Central office of Planning and co-ordination of Community Development, Central office of planning coordinator of the presidency of the Republic. She has been a member of the Directorate of the National Institute of Library and library services, and a member of the presidential Commission for state reform. From 1969 to 1974, she was a member of the Inter-American commission for Women. From 1969 to 1972 she was a member of the Commission on Indigenous Matters, Ministry of Justice of Vanezuela. She has obtained a degree in psychology from the Universidad Nacional Autonoms de Mexico. Born in Tovar, Venezuela, on 22 March 1938. Mrs. Briceno is married and has four children.
