Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix, UnderSecretary-General of the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations, was on a three-day visit of Nepal from 26 to 28 June.
USG Lacroix along with President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Ishwor Pokharel, Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa and Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali had a meeting matters relating to Nepal UN cooperation for the maintenance of international peace and security and further strengthening were discussed. On his (Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix) meeting with the Foreign Minister, USG Lacroix updated the Minister on the reform initiatives of the UN Secretary General,and sought support of Member States in this regard. The United Nations in Nepal made headway towards a renewable energy future with the installation of the solar energy system in its country office in Kathmandu.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the co-lead of Camp Coordination and Camp Management Cluster in Nepal, has successfully conducted provincial level CCCM trainings for the security forces of Nepal during the month of May and June in Province 1 and Province 2.The trainings were successful in providing a clear overview of roles and responsibilities, describing main activities to be carried out in each of the phases of camp life cycle and in ensuring protection and Gender Based Violence issues are taken into consideration while designing and managing camps and camps like settings for the displaced populations.
