The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is ending impunity for violence against women, and this is a very important theme for Nepal. But in Nepal at this time we could add a second theme, the importance of the participation of women in the peace process and in the Constituent Assembly which is to draft the Constitution for a new Nepal. It is a fitting memorial to Amparo that Nepalese women human right activists have named this award after her, which recognizes and empowers Nepalese women grassroots human rights defenders. This is a living memorial for a young woman who was dynamic and passionately committed to human rights and empowering community level human rights defenders.
