The overall objective of the Nepal Micro nutrient Status Survey (NMSS) was to assess the distribution and severity of micro nutrient malnutrition, and to measure the progress achieved by different interventions. Data were collected and analysed by determine the prevalence of iodine deficiency disorders (IDD), iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and vitamin A deficiency (VAD), and to estimate the impact of the vitamin A capsule supplementation on VAD and salt isdisation activities on IDD status. The survey also provided estimates on the current level of under-nutrition, the incidence of infectious disease, the consumption of vitamin A-rice foods, and the consumption of processed foods that could potentially be fortified.
