2017 was a landmark year for Nepal as it conducted the first elections since the adoption of its new constitution and the first at local level in more than 17 years. The elections were a tremendous success, both in terms of quality and mobilization, demonstrating the strong attachment of the Nepali people to democracy. It was especially rewarding for UNDP to see hundreds of women and youth beneficiaries of our socio-economic empowerment projects chosen to represent their communities in executive or legislative functions.
