Abstract : On 30 August, Kathmandu Valley celebrated age old Gaijatra (cow festival) to commemorate their loved ones killed during the past year, many of whom had died during the earthquake. This year’s Gaijatra held much more significance with the loss of many people, including many children in the earthquake. Vivek Sintakala, 16, of Bhaktapur, was one of around 9,000 people who lost their lives during the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on 25 April. Vivek, who had a paralytic condition, was the only one of his 5-member family who could not make it to safety when the family’s mud and brick house collapsed.
