Abstract : A UNICEF-supported immunization campaign was recently conducted in Barpak Village Development Committee (VDC) in Gorkha District – the epicentre of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake – and turned out to be a joyous occasion.
In addition to protecting the children aged 6 to 59 months against diseases like Measles, Rubella and Polio in this remote village, the immunization campaign also signaled a happy ending to an arduous journey that included the transportation of lifesaving vaccines through difficult terrain and storage of the vaccines amid limited power supply. The journey started with a bumpy drive on a rocky trail from Gorkha Bazar – the district headquarters – to Baluwa VDC and then another five hours of trek up on a steep hill.
