[Abstract]- Every Saturday, Januka Thapa and her friends go to local market in Sindhuli to sell the fiber bags they make as part of their micro enterprise. The bags, which quickly drew everybody's attention, has become an environment-friendly alternative to plastic bags in the area.
Encouraged by locals, Januka's group now lead a campaign to make their home town Sindhuli a plastic free zone. The earthquake on 25 April, 2015 devastated the Namuna fiber bag enterprise and they had resumed work under the open sky. But with immediate support from Rapid Enterprise and Livelihoods Recovery Programme (RELRP), a UNDP project funded by the Australian Aid, these women entrepreneurs were able to get back to business quickly. A year after the devastating earthquake, their business is slowly flourishing.
