Abstract : Follwing the earthquakes, UNICEF established 22 shelter home for pregnant and lactating women and their newborns in 11 earthquake affected districts Nepal. The shelter homes provide the women, their children and their caregivers with four meals a day, sanitation facilities, counselling services and medical attention from qualified health workers around the clock. This winter the shelter homes were winterized to provide a warm place for the residents to stay. More than 11,000 pregnant and postnatal women, their newborns and children and equal number of caregivers have benefitted from these facilities.
