Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General

The Secretary-General has received the proclamation made today by His Majesty
King Gyanendra regarding the current political crisis in Nepal. He welcomes the
affirmation that executive power will be returned to the people. It is up to the parties to work out the modalities for the transfer of power in a timely, orderly and responsible manner
