Threatened by climate change, Asia’s mountain regions face loss of rare and
endangered species, modified water balances, and changing land use transforming socio-economic conditions and livelihoods of people. In order to contribute to the dialogue on how to deal with these developments in an interdisciplinary manner, UNESCO and ICIMOD jointly organize a regional workshop “Climate Change Impacts in Asian Mountains” from 13 to 15 March 2013 in Kathmandu. The event aims at identifying the need for capacity building programmes in the region, review current and future plans for adapting strategies, and discuss how to best implement strategies at the community level. The workshop will further help to develop policy directives for climate resilient development and ecosystem-based adaptation for mountain communities.
