The Eighth meeting of the Health Secretaries was held in Kathmandu,
Nepal, on 16-18 April 2003.
The meeting reviewed the global threat posed by Severe Acute
Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and progress in the implementation of the
Declaration on Health Development in South-East Asia Region in the 21st
century.
Implementation of Programme Budget 2002-2003 was discussed and
Programme Budget 2004-2005 and ICP-II Work Plan for PB 2004-2005
reviewed.
Briefing on the following agenda items of the upcoming World Health
Assembly was provided:
- Healthy environments for children ( WHA Agenda 10)
- Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHA Agenda 13)
- Strengthening health systems in developing countries (WHA Agenda 14.13)
- WHO’s contribution to achievement of the development goals of the
United Nations Millennium Declaration (WHA Agenda 14.3)
- Implementing the recommendations of the World Report on Violence
and Health (WHA Agenda 14.15)
- Assessments for 2004-2005 (WHA Agenda 16.6)
- Representation of developing countries in the Secretariat (WHA Agenda 18.2)
