Promotion of micro-enterprise in the Far Western Development Region was a big challenge as many social practices were deeply ingrained. Though micro-enterprise can help meet these challenges, there was no information on how micro-enterprise development can achieve this objective. Hence, this study was conducted to analyse the relationship between micro-enterprise development and women's empowerment in Baitadi and Dadeldhura. Women's empowerment is a complex process. Though this study was conducted in two small villages, it was able to show women participate actively if the opportunity is income generating. Their active participation in income-generating activities such as micro-enterprise leads to their economic empowerment which ultimately leads towards social, political, legal and educational empowerment. The entrepreneurship development activities of MEDEP were found effective in creating micro-enterprises involving women. Economic empowerment was essential to achieve other kinds of empowerment as well. Consequently, this study has recommended that micro-enterprise development programme such as the MEDEP model should be replicated to other areas as well for the overall empowerment of women.
