After more than a year of planning, coordination and preparatory work, Global
Sanitation Fund (GSF) programme finally spread its wings to the field in Mid and
Far Western Development Region Nepal and launched sanitation campaigns in
Bajura and Bardiya districts, as well as Gulariya and Tikapur municipalities. As
part of the first funding round of the GSF programme, UN-Habitat has selected 8
Sub-Grantees, which include 7 National NGOs who have partnered with local NGOs
and one local government, to implement GSF programmes in the two districts
and two municipalities. In this context, the sub-grantees are supporting District
level Water and Sanitation Coordination Committees (D-WASH-CCs) in organizing
Village Development Water and Sanitation Coordination Committees (V-WASH-CCs) as
well as Municipal Level Water and sanitation Coordination Committees (M-WASH- CCs), preparing district level plans and implementing school and community led
total sanitation campaigns in the districts as per the National Sanitation and Hygiene Master Plan 2011.
