OHCHR-Nepal calls for an end to CPN-Maoist abuses, releases report

OHCHR-Nepal today publicly released a document setting out its major concerns regarding human rights abuses committed by CPN-Maoist cadres since its ceasefire declaration of 26 April.The 8-page document was delivered to the CPN-Maoist on 11 September, and sets out concerns regarding killings, abductions, ill-treatment and torture, the deaths of persons who were abducted by cadres of CPN-Maoist, and extortion, as well as concerns related to the rights of children and of internally displaced people.

Since that time ,OHCHR-Nepal has received new reports of abuse which it is investigating. These include two recent deaths in Lamjung District: the killing of Shanta Bahadur BK by members of the CPN-Maoist militia on 6 September, and the death of 16-year-old Kumar Pariyar on 10 September after being held by cadres of CPN-Maoist militia.
