Nepal has shown progress in social-demographic indicators in the past decades but the economic growth has been very slow. Employment and Labour force situation reflects the working capability of a country. Information on the current labour force situation is one of the focus areas of AHSs.Employment and Labour force situation reflects the working capability of a country. AHS III has collected data on current activities that include the status of the labour force, employment, unemployment and underutilization of all household
members aged 5 years and above. The labour force data is analyzed by different age groups.
The general objective of the survey is to provide data required to monitor annual changes in employment,
consumption and other socio-economic indicators of Nepal. The specific objectives of the survey are:
• to measure the changes in the structure and the level of consumption expenditure of Nepalese
households,
• to collect data required to measure annual changes in the indicators of employment, unemployment
and underemployment, and
• to provide other socio-economic information useful for economic planning and annual budgeting.
