Policy and legal reforms, leadership development, social rehabilitation of women affected by the conflict, legal aid, gender awareness and advocacy are some important activities being carried out to this end. The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Policy, 2010 has been adopted, and it is being implemented through various programs including those launched with the support of local bodies and development partners. A Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section has been established in the
Ministry of Local Development (MoLD) for effectively implementing the said
Policy, monitoring its implementation and contributing to making all activities of the MoLD and the local bodies gender friendly. Recently, provisions have been made to the effect that in appropriating their capital budget, the local bodies have to appropriate at least 35 per cent for the targeted group development programs, including 10 per cent for the programs directly benefiting the women of indigent class, 10 per cent for children and 15 per cent for the other targeted classes.
