This report presents findings from a further analysis study undertaken as part of the follow-up to the 2011 Nepal Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS).
It documents levels and trends in key indicators of sexual and reproductive health among adolescents and youth age 15-24 in Nepal and examines factors affecting them. Its purpose is to inform decision-making and sustainable policy and program formulation. The analysis draws on data from consecutive Nepal Demographic and Health Surveys (NDHS) conducted in 1996, 2001, 2006, and 2011. It includes descriptive analysis of trends in marriage and sexual behavior, contraceptive use, adolescent motherhood, knowledge of HIV and AIDS, and the occurrence of symptoms of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It also examines associations between various socio-economic characteristics and key indicators—adolescent childbearing, use of contraceptives, use of antenatal care (ANC) services, and institutional deliveries—using logistic regression and multinomial logistic models. Since the DHS is a cross-sectional study, causal relationships among these variables cannot be established; the results are associations, and causality must be ascertained from other evidence.
