The project aims to strengthen the capacity for emergency preparedness through a Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) approach and to increase the resilience of livelihoods through the prevention of landslide disasters and establishment of safer agricultural livelihood strategies. The area of the project is about 50 Sq km of Darkhukhola sub-watershed areas within Lachyang, Narjamandap and Kharanitar VDCs of Nuwakot district. It is finally aimed to reduce the loss of life and livelihoods due to such hazards.
The Community-based Watershed Management approach will be adopted during project interventions, which will encompass development of user-friendly Agriculture Hazard and Vulnerability Mapping (AHVM) Tool Kit, Watershed Management Plan at VDC level, and Capacity building of communities for the preparation of plans, implementation of livelihood activities, and landslide treatment and mitigation measures as key project activities.
