Government of Nepal (GoN) is implementing Agriculture and Food Security Project (AFSP) in 19 mid-hill and mountain districts of the Mid-western and Far-western development regions of Nepal, funded jointly by Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) and GoN. Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is providing technical assistance (TA) to the project whereas the World Bank (WB) is designated as the supervising entity. The duration of the project is 5 years (April 2013March 2018).
The main objective of project is to enhance food and nutrition security of targeted communities of the selected districts. It has been envisaged that food security will be realized through increased food availability, made possible by increasing productivity of both crop and livestock whereas nutrition security will be realized through improved dietary intake, made possible by production and promotion of diversified diets, and improved feeding and caring practices for pregnant and nursing women and children below 2 years of age.
